Yes, it is true. There is no limit to the creativity that we of crimson nape possess. A few days ago (I think) someone asked if there was a boresighting tool for a .22 rifle. I thought, there's gotta be a cheapo way to make one...

I wondered if this would work and, "Lo!" and "Behold!" it does! YMMV on anything other than a bolt gun, but why not try and improve on my design? I'm not planning on a patent, nor am I claiming any IP rights.

This is your standard green 532 nm laser pointer slipped into the space usually occupied by the bolt. I had to add a piece of cardboard to cover the trigger and to use as a lever to press the laser's activation button. Then, point it at the wall (I shot a 15 yard distance with my rangefinder) and adjust the crosshairs as needed. It can't be off any further than if it were boresighted by a gun shop, right?

Once the rain stops, I'll give it a go and see how close I was.

Do yourself a favor and lose the rings, unless you are going for the redneck look. :)

^^^LOL Yea really JK. Getting on paper at 15yards can't be tricky with a clear view down the bore. A friend from work and I went to the range last weekend. We had just put a new scope on his rifle earlier in the week. We steadied the rifle on a rest removed the bolt, centered the target with the bore (100yrds down range), adjusted the elevation and windage to center crosshairs, loaded and fired. POI was only 4inches low right from POA.

Yeah, you definitely need to put at least $400 worth of glass on a $149 rifle (if that's the savage I think it is)..

I've got the same rifle with the $12 wallyworld rings and a clearance simmons shotgun scope that's worked well for me since I put it on. Holds zero and on a good day will outshoot the Ruger 10/22 I WASTED so much money on.

Maybe he has trouble getting down into his scope and needs the high rings? I know I have that problem because of the way my glasses are.

Kudos on the the boresighter, this is exactly the kind of stunt I would pull.

Actually, this is my son's Crickett. The crappy scope came with my Marlin Model 60. I stuck it on his Crickett just so he can start to get used to using a scope. Since it is a 4X airgun scope, it will work well enough for that. I can't imagine I'll hang onto it or very long - I think it will be a target itself soon enough.
