Reloading press project:Good new Bad news
So as I am sure some of you saw my post from several weeks ago looking for a Ponsness Warren P-200 turret press. I was unable to find one but while looking for one I found out about the Hollywood SR Turret press.Currently I just have a Rock Chucker and having an affinity for older machinery combined with wanting to speed up my .40 S&W and .30 Carbine production.I was able to find a Hollywood SR press on GunsAmerica and bought it (to then see a P/W P-200 go up on Ebay 5 days later oh well) I got the Hollywood SR for $300 + $45 shipping which I thought was a fair price. It is a 8 hole turret set up for 10 & 12ga shotgun reloading with all the dies,powder,and shot measure etc for shotshell reloading so I know I am going to have to get adapters and a universal shell holder from C&H

The lone pic on the ad was ok but figured I would tear the press down strip the old paint and then repaint it so I could put my stamp on it so to speak.I ordered paint and stripper which arrived a day earlier then the press.

The press arrived today and now time for the good and bad news.

THE GOOD NEWS: The press looks friggen great!!!! Original paint looks almost like new and the bare metal parts just needed cleaning and a little wire brush work to remove old dried on lubricant.I partially disassembled it and took care of this and it operates beautifully now.

THE BAD NEWS: Now I am stuck with $50 worth of paint stripper and spray paint I cant use. lol I dont want to mar this great factory finish that still looks great. ANY of you need some paint for a project?
I have a quart of Rust-Oleum aircraft paint stripper
1 Can of Rust-Oleum high heat engine spray primer.
1 Can of Rust-Oleum Silver Hammered high heat engine spray paint
1 Can of Rust-Oleum Gloss Black high heat engine spray paint
2 cans of Rust-Oleum Clear Gloss high heat engine spray paint

Those Hollywood presses are cool! I started reading about them a couple years ago - and finally saw one IRL at a funshow last fall. I may have to go back to the vendors table this year and see if he still has it.

in my search for more info on the Hollywood Sr Turret I ran across this pic which was from an Ebay auction that ended in December he repainted it in something close to RCBS Green and sold just the press no arm or turret handles and some one did a buy it now for $600 so I thought I did pretty good getting the complete 10 & 12ga set ups for $345 shipped

I'm not a shot gun reloader at least not yet but that press is good looking,
Looks way better then the one painted RCBS green

I didn't buy it for loading shotshells C&H makes 1-1/2-12 x 7/8-14 bushings for it so it will take regular reloading dies I will be reloading .40S&W .30 Carbine and hopefully in the future .30-06 and maybe 6.8 SPC The P/W P-200 I was also interested in isn't good for FL resizing bottleneck cases

Id like to see RCBS take their summit press and put a turret on it.I do really like the summit maybe get one and retire the rock chucker

Pretty cool old press. I wonder why you don't see more of them around? I would have thought they'd be a popular design.

I've heard the name before, but that's the first one I've actually seen a picture of.

Here are pics of my Hollywood Sr Turret set up for .30 Carbine.

I bought 3 press top bushings from CH Tool and Die to go from the 1 1/2-12 thread to 7/8-14. I also used the two shot shell resizing dies that came with the press removed the decapper/expander and screwed my powder measures in the top.

The press only came with one handle for turning the turret so I bought 2 allen head cap bolts and formed the handles using fiberglass matting and epoxy then chucked them into the drill press to form and sand them before painting.

For primer catching I had to extend the CH H-ram shell holder threads withe a 1/2-20 inside x 3/4-10 outside threaded insert a 3/4-10 nut keeping the shell holder tight to the ram and another 1/2-20 threaded insert in the bottom of the nut so I could attach the 1/2 surgical tubing with a hose clamp to take the spent primers to a catch can.

I had to get a 6" 5/8-11 nylon thread cut the thread off and re-thread the bolt shaft to 5/8-18 to screw into the bottom of the powder measure through the resizer die,then I drilled a 3/8 hole through the length of the bolt and a 1/2 hole in the bolt head that I could screw a RCBS powder drop tube adapter in.

I can reload 4-5 fully prepped and primed cases a minute with a factory crimp die station after the bullet seater.I am thinking about getting 3 more press top bushings from CH and another set of dies so I only have to index the turret in one direction and not have to re-index back to the expander die.(I don't like the powder through expander dies) I already have the other powder measure set up like the first all I need is a new reservoir for it which is already coming found 2 12" Hornady on Ebay that will work on these.

I use to own and run Hollywood. Bought there press's new mail order in Arkansas. And face to face So. Cal. I thought I had arrived in the Mecca of press's and dies in the day when I bought my first face to face Hollywood press.

I look at the old Hollywoods now and thank god every time I load on my LCT.

it works great the stroke is very smooth and the turret rotation is smooth and has a solid positive indexing.I have been loading some .30 carbine with it. I had these cases prepped and primed before belling case adding powder seating bullet and then LFCD much better then doing each step independently on my Rockchucker.

I have also been pulling some .40 S&W loads I made up awhile ago and were a bit hot so I have been pulling the bullet with a Hornady Cam Lock bullet puller then I dump the powder by hand then index to the pwder measure for a reduced powder charge index back to the Cam Lock and partially re-seat the bullet then index to fully seat and then index to crimp takes about 20-30 seconds to do each round
