Hi guys,

Do any of you use any reloading software ?

I have been giving CGI Pro from Heavy Metal software a hard look and so far it looks great. Several way cool features, but more than I need.

Any suggestions ?

I am looking to keep track of load data, maybe do a chrono data import and run a few 'what if's' with regard to supplies.

Thanks for the feedback

"...more than I need..." All programs have more features than most people use. Just look at any word processor. Use the features you like and forget the rest. Not that I use 'em myself. Don't have a laptop so I can't take the program with me.

I am in the same boat as you BigSlick, there is some interesting looking software out there but I am reluctant to just spend the money and hope its good.

I have been looking into the RCBS.Load software myself. The main thing I am interested in is load data. I asked RCBS about this list from the creator's site:
http://www.gmdr.com/rcbs/datbas.htm
and was told that all historic manuals come with the progam and that data from more current editions can be purchased for $ 11.95 each. I take this to mean that after you buy the program if you want Sierra data it costs $ 11.95, if you want Nosler data, its another $ 11.95 and so on.

I am still going back and forth trying to decide if it is worth the money or not.

I use pointblank software for reloading. Found it here from some other reloaders. Its a free program. Hopefully someone here will post the link for you because I cant remember it.

Point Blank

Point blank is great software. I've been useing it for a long time.
Send him a couple bucks if you like it. It's not required but a nice thing to do if you like and use it.

I bought into NECO's QuickLOAD software. It doesn't store load data per se, but is the ultimate in load prediction. You pick the bullet, weight, propellant weight, ambient temp, bbl length and everything in between...and the software will come up with a performance prediction based on complex propellant burning characteristics and efficiency models. It also displays graphs for velocity over time or bbl length, pressure over time or bbl length and more! It's hard to describe how much information it contains. Yes, it's expensive ($150)....yes, it's a lot of information, but in my opinion it's indispensible when working up rifle loads.

At the least, check it out.

I am not impressed with any of the software products.

Any basic printed manual is better for reference, and all you need for basic reloading principles. I like Speer, and Hornady is good too.

Most of the current load data you need is available free of charge directly from the powder manufacturers websites. Additional info can be obtained for new calibers not listed by calling powder and bullet manufacturers.
