Hey guys,

I've used the search function on THR and Googled this question many times now with no luck.

I've got some Reloder 15 powder I'm hoping to use with some Winchester 55 grain FMJBT bullets (I want to shoot them out of an AR15 with a 1:9 16"). I've combed the net and my reloading handbooks and have found this powder is usually used with heavier .223 rounds (60g and up from my understanding). Anyway, does anyone have a starting load I could use this powder for with 55g's? Or should I just save it for some heavier lead and buy some other powder?

My components are:
55g Winchester FMJBT
.223 Remington brand-new brass
CCI small rifle primers

Shooting them out of a Stag Arms "Model 1" A3 with a 1:9 16" chrome barrel.

Thanks.

I use ONLY Reloder 15 in my AR because its not temperature sensitive and it fills the case so position isn't an issue either... my load is 26 grains with 62 grain bullets...but thats also about all the powder that little case will hold...and its over max in most manuals...but, according to Alliant, 26.5 grains is max for 60 grain bullets. It gives no signs of pressure in my gun.

You will get good velocity and accuracy out of it...It worked much better than Varget for me.

Start at 24.5 - 25 grains with your 55 grain bullets.

You didn't check Steve's Pages. He shows using RL-15 From 24.5 grains to 28.0 grains with 55 grain bullet. I noticed Reloder 15 has a fairly slow burn rate; slower then Varget. I have found that faster burning powder work best with the 55 grain bullet.

You might try using A#2230,meters good, shoots clean in AR15,good accuracy.25.5gr,55gr fmjbt.Makes cleaning AR easy after 200+ rounds

H335 is hard to beat with 55 Gr FMJBT bullets. Other powders work very well too, but I settled on H335 for factory powders. (not including surplus I use)
