Well, with all the bad press Remington has been getting, maybe no one wants to ADMIT to owning one...
I do have a Rem 700 VTR, but in .223 not the .308 that you were asking about. And it isn't exactly a "normal" model, but one that was spec'ed and built for Cabela's some years back. The Remington standard model has the machined in muzzle brake and, I believe, a 1/9 twist for the .223. My Cabela's model lacks the muzzle brake and has a 1/12 twist.
But, it does shoot pretty well. There are 7 groups of 7 shots each - different handloads - on the attached target pic. These were shot at 200 yards. The largest group is 2 1/4" and there are two groups that are under 1". The rest are between 1" and 1 1/2". (The 3 shots in the lower center part of the target were to get the scope adjusted.)
It would probably shoot better if I swapped out the flexible plastic stock that it comes with and also put on a better trigger. The stock trigger will not adjust down under 4 lbs.
