When I got to the range yesterday, I was pretty unhappy -- I realized that I'd left my Remington earmuffs at home, even after bringing them home for the weekend from school specifically to bring to the range. I thought for an instant that I'd have to basically go home (which would mean passing by a few stores that sell fun toys -- Beeman model 2006 air pistol is calling my name for basement plinking), but happily, I realized that I'd taken some of my own frequent advice in "What to bring to the range" threads, and dug into my range crate to find not one, but two choices for disposable earplugs. Not as great a sound reduction as muffs, unfortunately (esp. since I typically use both), but it let me get in an afternoon of comfortable shooting.
Just a public service announcement: don't get cut out of shooting like I nearly was (or worse, hearing!) because of forgotten ear protection. Stick an extra pair or two of foam plugs in your gear
