I am looking into buying a Remington 7 in 350 Rem Mag. It has the mannlicher stock. I have tried to find some information regarding scope mounting options. I have heard that some 7's have three holes in the receiver and some have 4. Is there somebody who knowes?

Any answers would be much appreciated

Depends on when manufactured..

Mine is an early addition, 1st or 2nd year they made them, and had 3 holes:

and I had my smith drill and tap a 4th, so I could go with split mounts. No big deal really he charged me something like $25. While I loved the look/feel of the MS stock it added considerable weight. So last year I added a Manners EH8 and the whole package now comes in at just under 7lbs scoped:

Thanks a lot for the information! So after your smith drilled the fourth hole you are able to use the regular mounts for the 7?

Thats a sweet looking rifle by the way. And looks like a nice stock. The previous owner cut back the Mannlicher stock on mine, so I might be looking for an replacement.

Yes, I replaced the 1 piece bridge mount (old Warne) with a set of Warne QD bases and rings (my M7 in .350 has 2 scopes). I provided my smith the Warne bases to use as a template and there was zero issues with drilling and tapping the 4th hole.

IF you decide to go the custom stock route I highly recommend the Manners EH8. At 24ounces its light and has a slightly higher comb for your optic. It's also proportioned "right" for the M7. Here's a couple pics of another M7 (.260REM) in a Manners EH8:

The weight for my M7 in .350, 20" barrel, iron sights and scope in the Manners is 6.45lbs.

All three of my Mod.7’s have three holes.

I believe you’ll want a solid one piece base. I recommend the Leupold as it adds a couple of ounces to the total weight. On a .350RemMag, not a bad thing!
On my .260, I’ve got Weaver two piece bases (aluminum) for light weight. Because of the curvature of the receiver, the base is secure. Ironically, it’s my most accurate of the 3. It wears an older Nikon 3-9. With 120gr premium bullets , it’s sub moa 5-Shots.
It has a 1/11” twist barrel, so it HATES 129gr+ plastic tipped bullets.

I’ve often wanted one of the Mannlicher stock Mod-7’s…

Nice looking rifle! Nice looking Pig too! It looks like you had some custom work done. The flutted bolt and the bolt handle look nice. And possibly flutes on the barrel? Enjoyed seeing the pictures.

The .260 has a fluted 20" barrel on it. Bolt fluting and skeletonizing are pretty much just for looks, minimal weight removed. But, it's also not that expensive. I've had mine done at LRI:

I've got a Rem 700 being finished up now that will pretty much mirror my .260 M7, except for the barrel flutes. It's a Bartlein 2B profile with a .75" shank (about a Rem mag + profile) and both Bartlein and my smith advised against fluting it. It's getting bedded in a Manners EH3 now, and hen will be Ceracoated in "Graphite Black". Hoping to have it back when I get back from an exercise next month to start load development.

I used to have a Rem 673 in .350 Rem Mag, The laminate stock and 22" barrel made the gun very heavy. My assumption is the 7 Mann had the same heavy barrel without the laminate, vent rib barrel, and shark-fin front sight? The 673 Magnum was a beast compared to the original Rem 600 Mag. I have acquired the original magnum carbine, and find that it shoots and handles much better than the bigger Model 7 (673) action and barrel combo. Do anything you can to lighten that Mod 7 and enjoy the .350 RM in glorious recoil!! I don't think it's that bad at all honestly, even from my diminutive 600 carbine. And the early Remington bolt actions are great guns.

The 600 with the laminated stock is listed at 5.5lbs/ 88 ounces, my M7 in .350 with it's 20" barrel and the carbon fiber stock weighs in at 5.71 lbs or 91.6 ounces, due the the slightly heavier barrel profile (Magnum), extra 1.5" length and the heavier M7 action. I could probably loose the 3 ounces with bolt fluting and skeletonizing the bolt handle, but it's almost hitting diminishing returns.

I'd like to find a 600 that's affordable, but from what I've seen them go for on Gunbroker it isn't likely to happen.

Here's a pretty decent article on the 600 from 1964:

Early guns had 3 screws and were supposed to use one piece bases. But I know of some guys who used standard 2 piece bases meant for newer guns and only used one screw in the rear mount. It appears to be strong enough.

I've had an update on my chopped Mannlicher (the stock has been cut down). It is the 4-hole version. It arrived in the post yesterday, but I am away working on an oil rig, so my wife picked it up for me. Another reason to look forward to getting home!

So now I can start looking at mounting options for a scope. Not to many options. Seems there is a drought in the industry :) But I have my eyes on some Talley one piece mounts. I have them on a nother Remington and I am quite pleased with them.

Can't go wrong with the Talley's!

A quick update on the project. Mine has 4 holes, so I bought the Talley Light Weight one pice bases. Fits like a charm. The only problem I found was that the intended scope was to close to my face. I had to scoot my head back on the stock to get rid of the "shadows" in the scope. So I decided to lengthen the stock. The first screw in the but pad came out nice, but the next one was rounded of. After a bit of swearing an thinking I got the hacksaw out. It looked like there was a spacer between the stock and the but pad so I followed this. After a bit of struggle I got it of and after some dremel work on the stubborn screw I could clean up the end of the stock on my mitre saw. And then I had to leave for work :) So now comes the decision. What to make the spacer from. I have made spacers from plywood and some plastic cutting bords from Ikea before. But I have a few nice pieces of ash, so I might go with that. And probably painting it black. I'll try to post an update when this is finished.

By the way, the scope is a Leupold 2,5-8 x 36. Same as @Chuck R.

Yup, I've found that eye relief with hard recoiling lightweight rifles is CRITICAL!o_O

Glad you got it all sorted out and together. IMHO the 2.5-8x36 is a really good size for the M7 and especially for the .350RM as it allows you to take advantage of he range capabilities.

I have not become a member of the "half moon club" yet ( a norwegian frase for the classic cut above the eye). But I felt this stock/scope combo might make me a member :)

It happens to the best of us!

A couple years ago we were practicing for an upcoming antelope hunt in WY. So I set up a coarse of fire with steel swingers running up my back hill from 150 (off-hand) to just over 600 yards. We were having a blast shooting from prone, tripods, off back-packs etc. Then one of the guys wanted to add some realism, by going off the hood of my UTV with his .300WSM. I hear a shot, then a "GD it!!!" and I look over from the spotting scope and blood is streaming down his face. Luckily it looked much, much worse than it was.

No doubt another lesson learned, till the next time..

There must be a lot of blood vessels in that area! It really bleeds.

I was attending a practical shooting class a couple of years ago, and one of the participants managed three cuts in one night! He was a bit skittish behind the trigger the next day!!

Found a reg walnut Model 7 in .223 at a shop. clean but boring wood.
And it wears a reg 4X Leupold (old 28mm obj).
Sticker shock I had.

I've got an open search with notifications on GB for M7s, the prices now are ridiculous..

IF you decide to get the .223, I've got a tan HS Precision M7 stock that's just sitting around since the rifle is now in a Manners. Looks like this:
