I’m in the market for a new 300 Win Mag and I’ve pretty much narrowed it down to these two choices. Buds shows the 5R Milspec Gen II at $960, the Premier Approach at $1799 and the Premier Ridgeback at $1999. Pros for the Bergaras would be the detachable mag, better QC, better customer service, better trigger and I think better barrel and action. Not sure the Greyboe stock are any better than the HS Precision on the 700. The Remington is literally half the price and that is the ONLY advantage I can see that it has over the Bergara. I think both companies are capable of producing very accurate rifles, but I have had one bad experience with a 5R Milspec in 308 that I don’t really want to duplicate. I just can’t convince myself that the Remington isn’t worth at least a shot for the price difference. That price difference puts me about halfway to the glass I want to put on top.

What say ye, Highroad? Save the cash on a rifle that is likely to be very much adequate, or spend the money for some extra features and better quality control? Also, I’m not a fan of Savage and I don’t really care for the Ruger RPR, so please don’t throw those out there. If there are other suggestions for a heavy barreled, threaded 300 Win Mag factory rifle that I am forgetting, by all means throw them at me. As always, thanks in advance.
