Remington 700 VLX .308

Was in my local Pawn shop today and found a Remington 700 VLS in .308. Rifle was in near perfect condition. One small ding on the stock near the butt plate. Laminate stock and heavy 26" bbl. This was topped off with a Nikon Buckmaster 3x9x40mm blue scope. Told him I had an old 742 in .308 with a Simons 3x9x32mm scope that I'd trade and asked him for the bottom line out the door price. He thought for a few minutes and said $250. I said here's my thumbs, print me.

Got it home and gave it a thorough cleaning. Gun really is in great shape. Hope it's dry tomorrow so I can see out it shoots.

Question is, did I get a good deal? I think so.

Provided it shoots well, I think you got an ok deal. With your trade and cash, you ended up paying about retail for the rifle if it were brand new in my part of the country. That said, I have shot two VLS's-one in 308 and the other in 243, and both ran step for step with my VS in 308.

I really like the fit and feel of the VLS, but prefer the bedding block of the VS, but thats just me.

Yep, 3 days off, then back to the grind stone.
Getting ready to go for a ride on my bike. Should get a chance to put a few rounds thru it later today or tomorrow, depending on how long we ride today. With all the rain we've had, ya gotta ride if the sun shines at all

Never owned a Nikon Scope before. This is a Buckmaster 3x9x40mm. Looks real clear and the zoom works real smooth. Know anything about them? How they compare to other scopes?

Couldn't wait. Just got back from shooting it. Didn't have time to bench it at over 50 yds but at 50, the 4 shot groups were all in the "X" ring and you could cover them with a Quater easy. Typical of what a lot of hunters use in this area for deer due to most shots being in the woods and less than 50 yds.
I'm happy with it. I'll fine tune it later at 100 yds but it won't take much at all
