Remington 700P vs Noveske AR-15 for second rifle?

I only have one rifle right now, a springfield M1A scout (unless of course you count my marlin 795 .22).

For my next purchase I want either an AR-15 or a .308 bolt gun. I've narrowed down to these two models:



OR

I will probably buy both eventually, but can't decide which to buy first. The 700 would get a nice, long range/bench rest oriented optic and the AR-15 would get an aimpoint/eotech, so $500-1000 extra either way.

Pros for the 700P:

- I've started reloading .308 and would like an accurate bolt rifle for load development. I have a lot of .308 ammo already.

- There are some nearby ranges that do 1000 yard clinics and I'd like to try them someday

- I'd like to have a highly accurate rifle for bench rest shooting

Cons for the 700P:

It's a large rifle and will require me to purchase a new hard case.


Pros for the Noveske:

- I've started shooting IPSC/IDPA style carbine matches, and while my M1A works OK the AR-15 would be nice.

- I want to have an AR since most of my friends do, they seem pretty fun to shoot, and it'd just be nice to have around. Do I have a real use for it? no.

Cons for the Noveske:

I don't have any .223 supplies so there would be a lot of gear that needs to be purchased.

if it were me, i'd go for the remmy 700, but i'm biased as of late being as i just built a long range rifle on a 700 barreled action. it is a great shooter! i like my AR too though, but in your case the M1A can serve in the role of a SHTF rifle. the AR's are great for 400m or less, the 700 doesn't start to shine until 400m plus, in my opinion.

tough choice you have there. being as you're already reloading for .308 i'd go with that.

I'd go with the 700, you already have a semi-auto "blaster", so to speak. The 700 will let you do another type of shooting where the AR-15 is going to do the same kind of thing you can already do with your M1A.

Noveske. Throw a Aimpoint ML3 on top of it mounted in a Larue LT129 and add a Magpul AFG. A whole new world opens up.......

its hard for me to pick 1 because i'd love to own both of those fine rifles! but if i have to pick i guess i'd say go with the 700 because you already have a very fine combat rifle although its heavy, a membership at a local gym will off sett a heavy combat rifle

Ha, actually the M1A scout is not that heavy, it weighs about 10lbs with a full 20 round magazine, 8 lbs unloaded. That's only a few pounds heavier than an AR. The 700P would probably be heavier, granted it has a 26" barrel.

Noveske. But I say that BECAUSE you're not setup for it. Half the fun to me is getting set up. But then again I love spending money on guns almost as much as I love shooting guns.

get the .308 i bought all my rifles in diffrent calibers now i have 6 or 7 calibers to feed its beginning to get old standardize now before you get attached to another one lol
