Remington 721 stock replacement

I would like to upgrade the original stock with a better wooden. I understand stocks for the current Remington 700s are close. What modifications would have to be made to a model 700 stock or does anyone know where I could get a wooden one made specifically for the model 721?

A couple of ways to replace the stock.
With my 721 I used a 700 BDL stock and replaced the trigger guard with a 700 BDL full length floor plate. You can find custom as well as Remington trigger guards for the 700 in Brownells catalog. Remington parts are relatively inexpensive. Custom are pretty pricey.
If you are a stock builder, there are few stock makers that make semifinished stocks for the 721.
As I recall, MPI makes a fiberglass stock for the 721- could be wrong.

Thanks for the reply. I'll look into your suggestion. I thouhgt I would have to modify the stock recess to fit the 721 in. A fellow in Cabela's said he had replaced his with a composit one so I wondered if a wood one wouldn't work just as well. I do woodworking as well so some minor modification wouldn't bother me. Thanks again.

Today I found a used 700 stock in excellent condition and was able to use it on my model 721 by making two modifications. First, the stock had to be trimmed down to allow the safety to seat and be activated. This was done by trimming down the stock immediately behind the bolt handle slot. Second, the stock had to be routed out a little to allow the bulge on the barrel at the rear open sight slot to properly seat in the stock. I used the original ADL trigger guard and did not convert to a BDL.

I just orderd a 721 stock from Richards micro fit. I wanted a thumbhole stock and for less than $140 I got one.
