I would like to someday pick up a 30-06 or 270 and I think I'd like to it to be a Rem 7400. I currently own a 700 sps in .308 which I love and will keep forever. I would like a brush gun with aperture or open sights in 06 or 270 and I have always been drawn to the 7400. What do you guys think of these rifles?

Good rifles if moderately mainiained but not increadably accurate. Very handy and pointable particularly when fitted with an apeture sight

They are a definate improvement over the 742s. I've heard that they're accurate for the first few shots, but it doesn't take many to heat the barrel up enough to affect accuracy. Using it for hunting, this wouldn't really be an issue though. If you're heating up the barrel shooting at a deer, something's wrong. It should do you fine for what you're wanting.

I have had great results with my 06 and wouldn't mind having a .270 though to have a matching pair got a lepoud on mine and nice matte finish, wood furniture a plus is it has backup steel sights something I miss on the newer rifles......
