Does anyone know what it would take to convert an 870 mfg'd around 1999 from a RH safety to a LH Safety? I found this:

http://www.e-gunparts.com/DisplayAd.asp?chrProductSKU=931440A&chrSuperSKU=931440&MC=

But I'm not sure if it's just a drop in or not. I've read info that leads me to believe it is and info that leads me to believe it isn't.

Anyone know the real answer? (It's a "marine magnum" with the key built into the safety if that makes any difference)

Regards,
Dave

The Gun Parts safety will work, but many people report that also installing the older style ball detent and spring makes things easier.

Replacement is easy.
Just put a finger over the hole on top of the trigger plate directly above the safety.

Push out the silver cross pin.

Dump the spring and detent out through the top hole.

Remove the locking safety.

Install the new safety.

Replace the new ball detent and spring.

Press the spring down with a punch or small screwdriver and replace the silver pin, tapered end first.

Test the safety for proper operation.

Thanks!! I'll order the part today and have it in in plenty of time to practice for deer season! :)

Have a good one,
Dave

I just wanted to say thanks to everyone for the advice. I just finished converting the safety on my newer model marine magnum from right-handed to left handed and it works like a top. Compared to the other advice I had found which said you had to replace the whole trigger plate this site saved me some serious (wasted) bucks!

I don't know if there's a different style detent available but this one is very positive and not at all hard to operate. I'm really looking forward to practicing now. (The right way . .or rather the left way. :) )

Have a good one,
Dave
