Remington Golden Saber 185 gr loads

Hello all,

I have checked the few books/resources I have, and this website, but have not been able to find any loads specifically for a 185 gr Golden Saber. I have Win 231, Unique, and Bullseye powders.

Any suggested recipes?

The closest thing I have is from the 2000 Alliant powder guide, which states that for a 185 gr HP (no ballistic coefficient or brand given):
6.7 grs Bullseye @ 995 ft/sec
8.2 grs Unique @1030 ft/sec

And the Win 231 Powder guide from 1993 for 185 gr HP (once again no brand listed)
6.2 grs 231 @ 915
6.8 grs 231 @ 990

I was very happy with 7.1 grs of Unique on top of Hornady's 185 gr XTP-load at about 1.225" OAL-tight consistent groups, cycled very well in my Para Ordnance 14-45

The Golden Sabers generally take a bit more powder to get the same velocities as standard JHP's of the same weight due to their lower drag in the barrel.

Agreed that it takes a little more powder comparing standard jacketed bullets to the Golden Saber. This info is from a chart from the web from a test that was shot from a G30 Glock. Start lower and work up to these levels as I have not tested the 185 GS.

I've loaded 230 GS's and have found that data for the Hornady XTP's of the same weight can be safely used for Golden Sabers. Do start lower and work up in your guns.
Another article using a Glock 30 showed standard factory 185 GS's velocity at 989 fps and 185 GS +P at 1113 fps. Now the Glock 30 has a 3.77" barrel so a longer barrel would increase the velocities. Agreed that there has been no published data using Golden Sabers. A shame that even Remington doesn't publish data for this bullet as I like them and they shoot good in my pistols. I've loaded 124 gr 9MM GS's and 230 gr 45 ACP's.

If nothing else, I'll try my Hornady loads and see how they do. It is a shame that there is next to no data on these bullets

I haven't found any difference in velocities with my hand loads using Unique between the 230gr GS and the 230gr FMJRN Remingtons. 6.2grs of Unique in mixed cases lit by either a WLP or Fiocchi LP runs them out the muzzle of both my Commander, Gov model, and Sig 220 on the + side of 850 fps.

I load the traditional bulk Remington 185 gr bullet on top of 7.7grs of Unique and get 1,060 fps from the Sig, and 1,090 fps from the 1911's. I'd expect pretty close to the same velocity from the 185 gr GS.
