remington serial number lookup question

Just bought a used AAC-SD remington 700 with 20" barrel.

The serial number has the form RR#####A

This doesnt seem to match any of the serial number lookup sites.

RR would indicate a manufacture year of 1997 but that doesnt seem right. None of the serial numbers have A at the end.

Any thoughts? Am I looking at the wrong number? With the muzzle pointed away, this number is stamped into the barrel on the left.

The serial number has to be stamped on the side of the receiver by law, not the barrel.

The date codes are stamped on the barrel.
