Remington UMC 124 grains
I was hesitating whether to post this question here or in Handloading and Reloading, but given that it's not strictly related to handloading, I decided to post it here and see what comes out.
One of my shooting buds is using this ammunition. It's the Remington UMC, the one in the green box with the 124 grains semi-jacketed frangible bullet. I have chronoed this ammo in my Star 30M and got a Power Factor of roughly 130, make that some 1045 ft/sec. A bit less in his CZ SP01 Shadow. Problem is, this morning they've had a squib. Some other days they have encountered problems with primers that didn't ignite on first strike. Luckily, the guy who had the squib is an experienced handgun shooter and noticed what was going on, but go figure what could have happened if someone less experienced was shooting.
The problem with that squib, with those primers, and some other problems I've read about this ammunition, like bullets setting back into the case when being chambered, has driven me to ask here: Have you guys had problems with this ammo?.
The issue is not to be taken lightly since this ammunition is being issued to the local police force in my hometown. This guy is one of their shift supervisors and is concerned about this. He wants to gather as much information as possible and write down a report for his boss, so he has this ammo replaced by a more reliable alternative.
The "alternative" could be manufactured by Fiocchi of Magtech. Out of those brands, I've fired a few thousand cartridges and never, ever, had the slightest problem.
Inputs appreciated.
