I've got... well, a decent amount of this stuff. It's the clasic green and white box with "223 REMINGTON" "55GR. MC L223R3" that you can find at Wal-Mart on a really good day. It's new-production non-reloaded stuff, brass-cased, but...

... the primers worry me. The headstamp for every case is the same, "R - P 223 REM", but the primers differ from cartridge to cartridge within the same box. It's not much... in fact, I had to look a second time, but some are definately silvery while the majority match the brass. I know, it's just color... but still, if there's this kind of inconsistency from Remington, who knows what else might be wrong... right? :(

Neither my Serbian PPU ammo, or my Aguila have this issue. Granted, the Aguila's got problems of its own with loosening bullets on occasion, but that's another story.

Am I just being paranoid, or what?:uhoh:

I bought 120 boxes of that stuff at Bass Pro Shops last summer for $5.99 a box and what I have shot through my AR (many boxes) have shot fine and haven't noticed any primer irregularities. Wednesday I checked out that same ammo there and it is now $8.99 a box.

Good luck with you ammo.

There is likely a contact # somewhere on the box . Ask Remington ,they will want the lot # which is printed somewhere on the box or on the endflaps inside. Depending where you bought the ammo you might have been burned by someone refilling factory boxes with reloads of some sort or another. Different lots of factory ammo will sometimes show different primer finish. You would never see different primers within the same lot of factory ammo

Burned through 1K+ of that ammo in a recent class, rock solid, cheap and reliable. I would not be worried but you can always call remington to ask.

I had 3 duds out of 6 boxes and noticed some of the same differences. Two of those boxes were purchased in Colorado, the other four in New Mexico. I don't know which rounds were from which boxes, unfortunately.

I don't mind using it for plinking now, but those duds have gotten the brand removed from the bedside loaded magazines.
