If memory serves me right they used to stamp them with MAG or an M in the serial number ? I ordered a new one, Last November, and waited 12 months, it arrived on the 14th. In the mean time, I bought a used one, that is only stamped 2 3/4 in. The new one is stamped 2 3/4 or 3 inch. ' I am offering it for sale, and was ask if its a MAG ? Do they no longer offer it with wood stocks as a MAG ? Looking at Remington's web sight, I only see MAG's offered in the Express models, with up to 3 1/2 inch shells. Does the new ones, receivers handle shooting 3 inch shells consistently ?

If the barrel isn't stamped 3" or 3 1/2", it isn't a Mag barrel.

And it most likely isn't a Mag gun either, unless it's a used gun with a different barrel on it.

I think I would be ahead selling the new one, then get a new barrel for the used one, albeit a new barrel that is marked 2 3/4 or 3 inch cost is like $229 locally. I think they fit the used one, it must be about 20 years old.

I believe you can put a 3" barrel on a receiver that came with a 2-3/4" barrel, but you could run into ejection problems. You won't hurt the gun, so throw the new WM's 3" barrel on the older one, and see how it works.

All of the new ones are Magnums since the mid-80s. Through the 70s the Wingmasters said "Magnum" on them. The serial number of the Magnums ends in 'M'. The barrels will all interchange, but a 2-3//4" gun will likely need the ejector and ejector spring changed to eject fired 3" hulls.
