Has anyone figured out a way to have a camera down range say a 1200 yard plus and watch the target on your laptop at the bench?

To far for a wireless. I am thinking using a remote camera controlled by cell phone with pictures or video sent via the connection.
Any suggestions or leads would be greatly appreciated.

Best Regards,
Sam

I have wireless camera's in home to watch babysitter and I can tell you that if you can run cat5 then you will be VERY HAPPY with quality and the cam is less than $100.

BUT THAT IS A LONG WAY FOR CAT5 probably $500 worth of cat5

The limit without a repeater for CAT5 is about 100yds. Wireless would work with a directional antenna.

i have a cousin named murphy that says you will shoot the camera on the first shot.

i use a old telescope from a garage sale for anything past 100 yd. it would work fine at 1200. a pain to set up -- just dont touch the d--n thing and you will be fine.:D:D

I have security cameras around my residence that I can remotely access via a IP address. Unfortunately, I did not set the system up.

You could plug the camera into a laptop with a wireless aceess card and broadcast the video remotely to your secured website and log in with another laptop to the secure site via username/password.

I don't think this is going to be an economical venture.

May be something I am missing, whats wrong with a spotting scope? Would seam a decent one would cost the same if not less then a camera.

I have never actually tried but can you really see bullet holes with a spotting scope at 1200 yards? Maybe with a really good quality high power scope. Someone else can chime in on this.

With a good directional antenna on each end, wireless-g is good for as far as you are going to be shooting, even with a .50 BMG. Upgrade to some surplus DTV dishes, and people have done 10 miles.

Here is an off the shelf version of what I am talking about:

With some scrounging on ebay for WET-11 wireless bridges and winding some helical antennas, it could be done for under $100.

Find yourself an old Bushnell telescope and get the adapter for a video camera. You can then pipe it out to a TV or record it for later.

Given that the cost of video cameras and wireless networking gear continues to drop, it could be argued that a video transmitter system could be put together for much less than that of a high-end spotting scope.
