Hi everyone,
I recently bought an old rifle that someone has painted with what appears to be a spray on bed-liner. I am looking for any insight and experience regarding which solvent I should try to use to strip the paint. I am wanting to maintain any bluing that may be left underneath.
I have heard that white vinegar, brake fluid, mineral spirits and GooGone are options.
Any help would be appreciated.

MEK strips almost everything but it is very toxic so follow the directions explicitly. Some of those bed liners are made of synthetic rubber so try least harmful first--mineral spirits, then paint or lacquer thinner, then something like MEK.

Well, so far I've been using laquer thinner. I have to soke the parts for about a half hour and use quite a bit of elbow grease to get the paint off. So far, the bluing and finish that's left on the gun is dissapointing to say the least, but I suppose that's the price you pay for buying a painted gun.
