Good morning,
Recently I bought myself one of the new Umarex\Colt SAA airguns and it is a beauty! That purchase led me to getting my 40+ year old Crosman .177 pellet Peacemaker out and doing a maint. with an eye towards shooting them both in a simple comparison. Of course, the mainspring in the 'Peacemaker' broke which resulted in me opening the gun and the detent ball bearing flying off and the C02 cover breaking. *laughs* Some days, eh? A search online for parts produced a website: 'The Pistol Place'. This site has several fascinating reads about airguns and and the gunpowder versions that our replicas are based on. Anyway, this fellow had recently refurbished the Crosman .22 pellet version of my revolver. I followed his links to .pdfs of the revolver showing parts and an exploded view with everything listed with original Crosman numbers. Armed with this knowledge I went to Crosman and tho' they had long ago dropped this gun and any parts for it, they were able to point me to an air gunsmith who had the parts I needed. ( The C02 cover I repaired myself using brass square tubing ) The airgun-smith is another fellow whose site is definitely worth a visit. 'Accurate Airguns' A week later parts arrived. I also wanted to replace the wooden grips I had put on this revolver 35 years ago when I first came to Colorado. The closest (affordable) thing to the long vanished plastic Crosman grips was a pair of Chiappa black plastic grips that could be modded to fit the chunky grip frame on this gun. The new grips even had a medallion on them with a CF ( kind of like Crosman Firearms ;o) By this time I had found the missing ball bearing detent and now had an extra. Taking heed of my previous misfortune, I magnetized both the spring and ball bearing so that they clung together when I went to reinstall them in the frame. Everything went back together smoothly and the gun is much better looking now and works as it should. I will eventually refinish it back to like new but for now, I am extremely pleased with the result. It is a fitting stablemate for the Umarex Colt and I will hopefully get another 43 years worth of good use out of it.
regards and pictures:
