I've been considering replacing the barrel on my Remington XR-100 (22-250) to a Lilja barrel. When looking at the pre-threaded barrels, I noticed that they have some pre-threaded for the model 700.

Will this threading fit my XR-100 model, which uses a model Seven's action?

I have also been considering rechambering it to either 223 WSSM or 243 WSSM just so I could have a cartridge that could reach way out there.

Would it really be that benificial to switch to the 223 wssm from a 22-250? I'm kind of worried about burning out a nice barrel really quick.

How about the 243 wssm? Does it have the same barrel burning effects of a 223 wssm?

Thanks,

AU

I'm not an expert on Remington actions, but it appears that the Model 7 and 700 share the same thread pitch and diameter. That said, give Lilja a call before you order a barrel, and ask them.

As far as I know, all the small caliber WSSM cartridges are barrel-burners. You can realistically use the .22-250 to 400 yards or so with a solid rest, a good scope, a laser rangefinder, and some practice. How much further do you need to go with a .22 CF varmint rifle?

well, seeing as you would have to change the bolt face from the near world standard .473" to whatever the WSSM case head would be. Not an easy feat perhaps.

You could just rechamber to a 260 Rem, or 243, or 308. Any one of those three would be fun to work on. I don't have my COTW book in front of me but I am sure that there are other calibers that would be equally fun and accurate to shoot.

If it were me...I would check out either a 6mm or 6.5 BR cartridge.

IF you are interested, go check out www.6mmbr.com Lots of info there.
