I’ve had a Cold Steel Panga machete for nearly 20 years. I finally pushed it too hard and rippled the edge pretty deep. I can either repair it or repurpose it into a smaller knife with similar geometry, which would be fine for a 5-7 inch blade belt knife. If repurposed, I’d definitely replace it with another or similar shaped machete. I’ve used that pattern from various makers for over 30 years.

I’ve been using it so long I hate to loose it. I took some measurements and the thickness at the top of the damage is about 0.015-0.017 inches. That’s not as bad as I thought. I think I’ll repair it. If it doesn’t work then I’ll repurpose it. I can only repurpose one time. One of the reasons I like the CS machetes is they are easy to repair with just a good file. If I take it up to about 0.01” then I can hopefully resharpen it and avoid any further gross damage, barring any rock impacts or similar accidents.
