For the life of me, I can't find anything anywhere that says I have to notify LEO in CT if I get pulled over. I'm sure someone here has experienced this. Will my state pistol permit show when they run my DL? Now, if the LEO asked if I had any weapons, I'd declare it then, but I don't want to offer anything if I don't have to. Thanks in advance!

I can't say that this info is updated, but on handgunlaw.us it says that you don't have to notify an officer in CT if you're approached on official business. If they ask, then you'd have to, but not if approached or pulled over. Just go to handgunlaw.us , click on US Off-Limits A-M, on the left side of the webpage. It'll bring up various information for those states. Under "Must Notify Officer", it says "No". I'd check, though, to make sure it's updated. It says that it was last update 3/14/08, but then handgunlaw.us has that disclaimer, as usual, that you have to make sure everything's correct. Also, yes it will come up when they run your driver's license, at least that's what I've heard from many sources. That's how they often catch people in states that you're required to inform the officer, but fail to do so.

If they don't ask, I keep my mouth shut about that.
If they see a something firearm related like a spare mag in the cupholder,
then they might ask... so I don't leave things lying around.
I've never even been asked if I had weapons/contraband/etc.
If they ask you those types of questions,
you might want to consider "why am I being asked?".

If they ask, some LEO may be cool and breif.
Some LEO may then retain you for extra time while they perform
clearance checks on you and the weapon.
Time is your most valuable asset, don't volunteer it away!

GuyWithQuestions, thanks for that link. Interesting that it's a class D felony to carry on to school grounds "unless licensed or privileged to do so". That wording makes me think I'm good to go with the state pistol permit since I'm "licensed". I know many states do show the CCW permit when the DL is run.

p200sk, as to the question of "Why am I being asked?" That's the other thing I want to know regarding CT. Even with no "evidence" visible, does the pistol permit show when the LEO runs a DL? If so, "that's why I'm being asked." Handgunlawsus doesn't address this for CT.

i got pull over a few times and i didn't tell them i was armed. Don't do it unless u are required by law to do it! You have no idea how the officer will react if they know that you are armed. They might let you go or they might disarm you. Not worth the risk if you ask me.

Thanks for the info, lionken07. Seemingly, according to your experiences, the pistol permit is NOT tied to the DL since they never asked you if you were armed. Good news as I'd rather not inform the storm troopers of this communist state if I don't have to. I had a HELL of a time just getting my temporary permit from my town and got read the riot act of how civilians shouldn't be allowed to carry guns and how "people like me" make their job harder. Uh, yeah...no need to worry about the banger from Waterbury, or some other hood, that just stuffs his gat down the front of his ass draggin' pants and goes about his "bidnezz". Yeah, let's worry about the guys that take the time to fill out paperwork, get it notarized, pay almost $100, provide proof of professional firearms training, take the time to schedule an appointment with the POLICE, undergo a background check, voluntarily get fingerprinted, etc... Yup, I'm surely the dangerous one.

My drivers license says "dmvct" on it. (dept. of motor vehicles)
My "State permit to carry pistols and revolvers"
is not emblazoned with
"Connecticut Department of Public Safety, aka Connecticut State Police".
Connecticut Department of Public Safety aka Connecticut State Police is
however the agency that said permit is registering me with.

When it comes to sharing information between state agencies:
Given how tight the DMV and State Police are, chances are that your posession of "a permit" would probably be revealed to a "beat cop"
if they looked deep enough while "doing the paperwork" at the LEO vehicle.

In Connecticut during a routine traffic stop:
If you are not specifically asked "Are you in posession of a weapon?"...
why would you want to open a can of worms by mentioning a weapon?
I would think that to open such said "can of worms" unprovoked,
would be a poor method of self preservation.

I think I hear a barrel calling, that it wants to get hot & dirty.

But the state police ARE very tied to the pistol permit. Ever heard of the Special Licensing and Firearms Unit (SLFU)? I've had email conversations with SGT Bastura, who is the XO of the SLFU. I'm sure they have a "google" type system where multiple agency records could be searched from the internet (or whatever) connection they have on their patrol car computers.

No duty to inform here. I was in an accident several years ago carrying. I kept my mouth sut... One of the two cops gave me a hard enough time as it was, I can only imagine what he would have pulled if I told him I was carrying.

The other cop was nice though.

Im not sure about CT but here in OK you have to inform at a stop but legally the officer cannot take your weapon from you during th stop. If he does get his badge number and report him.
