I have a question for you holster makers. The stitching holding the belt flap on one of my older Safariland holsters has given up the ghost and ripped. Only the thread, not the leather. Is it possible, or better, cost effective, to get it restitched?

Thank you.

Kevin

Try this link and you can learn how to sew it up yourself.

I dropped a Protektor rear shooting bag and the thread blew out. Fixed it myself. If I can do it, you can too.

Depends on where it is. Is it where you can get to it with needle and thread? On many deisgns, you'd have to disassemble the mainseam to get to the belt loop stitching. Which makes life difficult if it's been glued.

I have thought about using an old sewing awl for this. The kind with the hole in the needle and a spool of linen thread. Probably take me a long time but it seems the only do-it-yourself remedy.

Here is a photo of the holster. You can see the missing threads on the bottom of the flap. I would remove all of the threading so as to have new thread in the area.

If you have an awl, that would be an easy fix using some artificial sinew that would last longer than the leather probably. Maybe a 10 minute job...

Hand sewing that will be an issue. Unless you disassemble the while thing. Can't get at the holes.
Could be done with a sewing awl. Tandy's carries 'em. $24.99 including the thread..

Are you seeing the end of all of the stitching on the holster?
Might it need further repair down the line?
You may end up redoing the entire thing.

Time for a different holster, now to decide which one. I have always liked the way the Brill holster looks!

It would be easiest to re sew it by pulling the seam on the front or back edge. but.. it should be very easy to re sew as all the holes are already there.

I've done a lot of leatherwork using those "old fashioned" hand stitchers. As Greg528iT says, it would be easy to re-stitch because the holes are already there even if you take all the edge stitching out and re-do the whole thing. Shanghai makes a generous offer; I'd take him up on it if I didn't think I could do it myself. It's a decent old holster, worth saving IMHO.

+1 on Shanghai's generous offer.
Suggest you take him up on it.

Won't be no big thang to repair it if you know how to use a Speedy Stitcher.

Myself?

I'd cut & pick out all the old rotting stitching and sew the belt loop back on.
Then redo the whole thing with nylon thread.

It would be good for the life of the leather then.
