My shooting technique is apparently kind of weird. The proof of that is when I have its sights adjusted so that a handgun shoots to POA for me, it's noticeably off when someone else shoots it.

Could you be cross-eyed dominant? A friend of mine has every pistol with sights WAY over to the side...but hits well with them. His poor wife couldn't connect with the steel after he'd 'sighted them in for her' but when I handed my Beretta 92 Compact to her she was ringing them just fine. Most pistols will shoot pretty darn close to POA when the sights are centered...if they need to be way over to the side, there's either a mechanical or shooter problem most of the time.
RR- Maybe that's what's up with me
I'll have to check it out. I've also shot SA revolvers more than anything else, so my grip technique is maybe a little different than most.
A friend of mine has a 2 or 3 inch J frame, Smith 38 special that he mounted a red dot sight on and did a trigger job. What an eye opener that little gun was, it was amazing. Anybody who thinks that small, snub nosed revolvers are inherently inaccurate has never shot one with a red dot mounted on it. Whenever a group of us went shooting everyone always wanted to shoot that little revolver. One of these days I'm going to make one up just like it..
