These two seem to go pretty well together. Folks who detail strip after every shooting may disagree...I'm one of those guys who clean lightly when I shoot a little, then clean heavy every few trips.

Shot about 20 rnds through my revolver tonight (had others that needed shooting....) Cleaned it with the Bore Snake. A spritz of CLP on the end, then drag through each chamber. Another spritz, and drag through the bore 3 times.

Then a spritz on a rag, and clean the front & back of the cylinder, end of forcing cone, under the ejector star, a quick wipedown and put it away. Probably under 5 minutes.

When I get 100 rounds or so, I'll get out the rod, brush and jag. Meanwhile, I like this Bore Snake routine for a quick clean. The Otis users probably have an equally quick clean-up.

Dave, I clean the chambers every time out, but only because I load EVERYTHING I have for defensive purposes . Other than that I could care less what the cleanliness of a gun is like.

A 50 cal boresnake makes the 45 cal revolvers easier, as does a 375 rilfe snake in the 38 caliber revolvers.

If your revolver takes more than 10 minutes to clean you are doing it wrong.

EDIT: My usual cleaning routine is basically the same as you describe, takes 5 minutes. That is all I do for cleaning even if I went through 500 rounds. I deep clean/detail strip once every 2000-3000 rounds, monthly on some guns and some guns will see maybe up to a year between detail cleanings.

Boresnakes are your friend. I use them for revolvers, semi-autos and rifles. Once in a while I'll break out the brushes. My normal cleaning routine is boresnakes, toothbrushes, rags and CLP.

A Bore Snake and a shop rag are great to keep in your range bag. They take up very little space, and work good for a quick 60 second cleanup. Especially if you're not headed home right after a range session. If you use them right away, while the gun is still warm, they do an acceptable job.

Hum Must not be cleaning my guns right usualt takes em longer than 10 mins. I usually shoot 2-300 rounds at a time like to make sure barrel is clean when im done auto or wheely. I clean with a jag usually . You guys think im overcleaning and a few runs though is all ya need?

I bought my S&W M/P .38 Special 4" tapered Bbl. from my brother as a newbie: I spent hours removing the leading that his lack of cleaning left in the Bbl.: this was with a rod, brushes, jag(and enough Hoppes #9 to pickle my brain)....all through the muzzle. Now that we have Boresnakes, I NEVER clean from the muzzle. I use a spritz of MPro7 on the snake brushes and a few pulls really shine up the bore and chambers.

Meant to say i use a otis system on revolver but still takes me more than 10mins maybe ill try a boresnake then

They've left my barrels looking clean, but patches run through them come through awfully dirty.

I agree with Standing Wolf. I admit to using the snakes, but when I want to CLEAN my bore and my cyliner chambers, I need to use brass brush and many many cotton patches until they come clean.
