Question on the Bersa....

Lobotomy Boy,

What kind of Bersa do you shoot? I'm considering a Thunder .380 for slimmer profile CCW, and am wondering about there reliability, since the same company also owns Llama (which is pretty well known around THR here to be junk).

Let me know your thoughts.

I enjoy shooting .357 from my 605. I continue to be surprised by the accuracy of the little gun.

I was surprised by how accurate this little gun was too. I just replaced the two fingered rosewood grips with three fingered rubber grips. Maybe that will help the feel of shooting the 357's.

I love autoloaders. I like the looks, they way they shoot, they way they feel in my hand, racking the slide, press checking, pointability, sound of dropping the slide to chamber a round... etc...

I just like the way a revolver looks...

.38 Snub Fan, I have a .380 Thunder, which is extremely reliable, but it seems to need thorough cleaning every 200 rounds or the magazine gets a little sticky. It's too heavy for pocket carry but fits well in a PPK/S OWB holster. I've shot a Bersa .45 ACP and have been impressed with that, too. Overall Bersa seems to be of much higher quality than Llama. I seem to recall reading that while Bersa and Llama are imported by the same distributor, they are built in different factories.

For more information check out Horge's excellent Bersa site (http://www.geocities.com/bersa_thunder/). Horge has forgotten more about Bersas than I'll probably ever know.

Extreme Dooty, my 605 came with rubber grips, which I like quite a bit. Also, I forgot to mention that mine is a 605C. I intended to buy a non-compensated version, but the C model was $10 cheaper for some reason. Maybe that's why I have no problems shooting .357 magnum rounds.

From Justin: ...Even the wheelgun I have is a semi automatic.
I'm late to the thread or I would have asked sooner, semiautomatic wheelgun? One of those wierd Webleys? Got pix?

I'm 8:7 autoloader. I hadn't realized my inequity until this thread. Now I'm in a quandry. I like shooting both. Gotta balance out...

I've got a mix of both....I've just never been able to make up my mind I guess...In a pinch tho, I'd reach for a semi auto ;)

Justin, thanks for the picture and link. I certainly learned something new from your post.

The Mateba Model 6 Unica is one heck of a lot better looking than the earlier Webley. Is it fun to shoot? .357 Mag seems to me more reasonable for a semiauto revolver than the Webley's .455 (?) but I see on that the Mateba action is available in .44 Remington Mag and as a rifle, too

I like the part about the barrel aligning with the bottom charge hole in the cylinder. That's also unusual if not unique. How does that work out? I know the relatively low bore axis of the H&K P7's really helps keep the muzzle from flipping up very much even with Plus P loads. Sharp recoil but little flip.

I'm a sucker for unusual actions and the Mateba definitely qualifies for my suckerhood. I'm also drawn to the Phillips & Rogers Medusa for the same reason (unusual action)--not to mention the H&K P7's and S&W 547's already in the safe.

Thanks again

Well, I'd like to say that I like them both equally, but in all honesty, I guess I just prefer pistols... 1911s, CZs, BHPs and the like.

Voted Wheelies only. My first handgun was a Mauser .25 auto and a Ivers Johnson .32 "Owls Head".

I do own 3 auto's but much perfer my revolvers. My favorites are the Ruger Security Six (6" bbl), Model 19(6"bbl), Model 10's (4" bbl), etc. You get the idea-all of them.

I like bright shiny nickel-plated revolvers ( S&W M19 ) and bright shiny nickel-plated Colt Gov't model 45's and bright shiny Python's and bright shiny nickel-plated M 39-2's...

Do you see a trend here? ( Though I do prefer ivory over mother-of-pearl. )
