I have read many of your comments here about the RIA 1911's and am now seriously considering purchasing one upon my return to the States.
Having a fullsized Colt 1911 at home and lots of experince with 1911's in the service, this looks like a great concealed weapon for me.
Armscor names it the 1911A1 CS-PS. Does anyone here have specific experiance with the compact model? Is it as reliable as the full sized RIA'? What I am looking for is a good "base" to start with and perhaps modify as necassary to make it run well for me, would you feel this a good place to start?
I am in Baghdad now, and unfortunately my e-mails to local gun shops in Central Texas go unanswered. Calling is an option, but a rather sketchy one at best. If this is possible I would like to order one now and have it there for me when I get home; I am not sure how hard that would be.
Any help would be appreciated.

a friend of mine carry the compact version of the ria, and he's very happy with it, i personally carry the tactical version and i love it. just say away from the very cheap magazines, other than that, any RIA should work great. On a side note, the RIA is not a show gun but for Concealed Carry it doesn't matter.

Thanks Sarduy.
I am looking more function than show, so thats why I am looking at RIA. I stay away from cheap magazines and so far have not had any problems using the ones I have for my Colt.
I am pretty surprised with the economy being hurt, it is so hard to set up a deal. I would have thought someone would have answered my e-mails by now.
I have looked at Gun Broker and the prices were all over the board and having had some bad experiances with E Bay snipe bidders I am hesitiant. I would still need an FFL to take delivery until I get home anyway.

Well it would seem my mind is made up, it is just impossible to get someone to answer and e-mail.
I have tried everything but calling it looks like that is next.
Anyone have a favorite source for these in Central Texas?

I carry a RIA Compact 1911A1 every day. Love it. Think I got it from Sarco, it was under $400. Kind of a "semi-Tactical" model, has the beavertail and cool hammer, but GI sights. Presently wearing CTC Lasergrips.

I'm thinking about getting one myself, unless a really good deal on something else comes along in the mean time. Thinking of the 5" GI model though.
