I have a hammer stlye double 12 gauge. It has "Richard" stamped on both sides. It has a crown above an oval on each barrel at the base of each barrel with other markings as well. It has "Twist Belgium on the raised rib between the barrels. I would like to know if this means the barrel is twisted steel or is it Damascus. It also has a diamond with 12c in it on both barrels. Can anyone be of any help? I really appreciate your time if you can.

Sounds like a generic guild gun built for either the British or American market at the turn of the last century or thereabouts. Twist steel, similar to Damascus MAY still be usable AFTER a very thorough check by a very knowledgeable gunsmith; most of then are not, however.

If you take the forearm and barrels off, there should be proof marks and other identifying insignia stamped on the flats and water table. Those cab get you a better idea of things
