Just in time for Christmas, I've finally gotten the article about Rifle Basics online at my website. The link is here. My home page is in my signature.
It's been a while, but here's a thread about my site in general, in case anybody is interested.
RGO, great site and exactly the thing I was looking for, to steer some new shooters I know to! I could hammer them with page upon page of specifics and details, but what you have is definately a good "primer" full of useful info.
You (at some point) may want to re-take the picture of you in the sitting position. You can get a steadier position by placing the back of the upper part of your arms (just above the elbow) against the front of the lower leg (just below the knees). That way you aren't balancing your arms on the little pivot point of your elbows.
Another section I'd suggest is a primer on cartridge nomenclature. I've never seen so many mistakes (because there are so may variations and nuances) in how we refer to different cartridges.
Cartridge nomenclature sounds good. Ideally, for part of that I would like to get a cross-section of a cartridge, i.e., one that's been literally cut in half. Unfortunately, there's no way I can personally do that. In fact, a section on nomenclature in general may be in order (clip vs. mag, ya know).
I'll keep your comment about the picture in mind. Sounds like something worth trying. I just took the picture using the method I was taught.
