Hey everyone, quick question.

Is there any reason a scope shouldn't be mounted a bit forward? I bought a new scope, and a new set of rings and bases to boot. Got the bases and rings installed, and the scope seems to sit too far forward. I think I may need to return the bases and get a standard Rem. 700 base. These are a reverse front, and I had to turn the front base around because it was in the way of the bolt and spent shells weren't ejecting properly.

Anyways, the power adjustment ring on the scope is right behind the rear ring. Will this cause any problems? I sighted it in and it groups just fine, but I think my head may be creeping forward on the stock, causing my eye level to drop and forcing an uncomfortable cheek weld (it's a Weatherby, so the stock drops, not straight). This alone will probably force me to redo the job, but are there any other issues anyone can think of? Perhaps the front base hanging over the barrell will stress the base screws during recoil? It is a 7mm Rem Mag so I'm kind of worried about ruining the receiver via recoil. :(

Thanks,
Tristan

If it doesn't fit well (eye relief and repeatable, comfortable stock/cheek weld) then you won't shoot up to your potential in the field, and likely will even have trouble on the bench.

You should be able to close your eyes, shoulder the rifle, then open your eyes and the scope should be "right there", no creeping foward back up down or nothing, just a clear complete field of view.
