Hello,

I am trying to decide which scope to buy for either a Mossberg 100 ATR or a savage-stevens 200 (either would be .308). Does anybody know of a good scope in the $100 or a little higher price range that is reasonable quality and preferably has mil dots? Also, are Bushnell or NcStar scopes any good? Thanks.

a couple years ago i did considerable research on scopes for a remington 700 PSS .308. i'd recommend checking the various sniper forums. lots of great info, and the members tend not to be "bell tower psychos" but level headed enthusiasts, police and military. tons of good info there.
for a hundred bucks, with a .308,honestly, you're probably better off using iron sights. for a .22, a little tasco would serve you just fine, but in a serious caliber at longer ranges, you're gonna have to spend a little more,or don't bother.
there are some decent scopes out there that don't cost a thousand bucks. from what i gathered, the bushnell elite with mil-dot reticle was a pretty cool scope for the money. bushnell itself,as i understand, is mediocre, but their elite series is actually the finer bausch and lomb stuff, a better optics company that bushnell absorbed. also check the supersniper scopes. yeah, it's a stupid name that has a "as seen on TV- ronco" sound to it, but i've heard nothing but good about them for years. for the money, that is. in case you're curious, i went with a leupod MK4 mil-dot, but i also skimped, going with the PR line, rather than the top tier LRT scopes. ( i paid $600 rather than $1100 , still, great stuff). good luck........

In the price range you specify, I'd recommend the Bushnell Trophy 3-9x40. It is priced around $90 and is a very good scope for the money. That said, if you can stretch the budget to about $150 or so, I would recommend you to step up to the Burris Fullfield II 3-9x40, which IMHO is one of the best scope values currently offered. I bought the $150 Burris Fullfield II for my daughter's deer rifle, and compared it side by side with the $300 Leupold VXII on my rifle. The Burris was better  Needless to say, I sold the Leupold.
