From the Cooper web site......

Cooper web site said:
Regarding the USA Today Article. Cooper Firearms of Montana, Inc. did not contribute and does not support in any fashion the campaign of Senator Obama.

Nine months ago Dan Cooper (personally) made an online donation to the campaign in an effort to help defeat Hillary Clinton and in protest of American plant closures and the shipping of jobs overseas. Three months ago he made yet another donation to the McCain campaign and the RNC totaling over twice that given to Obama campaign.

There is no doubt that the article in USA Today has caused a considerable response. To this end we are encouraged and stand with our fellow NRA members and supporters of the Second Amendment and against those who oppose it.

Feeling The Heat

That's certainly interesting.

I wonder if Jim Zumbo had a word with him?

Did one of you guys alert Zumbo or Ted Nugent on this?

I saw the list of firearms dealers who are supporting Obama. I think it's great. I will be giving them my business in the future. I support Obama and am a life member of both the NRA and the SAF. Mods, it's not fair to delete my post just because I support the rifle maker here. If anything, my post needs to be highlighted.

Not meant to be a political commentary either way, mods. Just interesting and maybe puts things in perspective.

The new text on the Cooper homepage doesnt explain this; unless he was misquoted by the reporter:

Cooper changed sides, he said, "probably because of the war. And also because the Republican Party has moved so far right in recent years."

He also likes Obama's message about "the retooling of America, which involves the building of middle-class jobs and helping American small business be competitive with those overseas."

Assuming your tongue is not firmly planted in your cheek, my reply is "Thank God! There is a person is not a one-issue voter!" You may be (read: definitely are) in the minority. At any rate, whether or not this guy gave Obama money is less important to me than the quality of his guns.

From the Hunting Shack:

In light of the recent news coverage on the position of Cooper Firearms concerning the upcoming Presidential election and due to their relationship with Cooper Firearms, The Hunting Shack and HS Munitions, Inc would like to make the following statement:
"The Hunting Shack and HS Munitions Inc. are proud supporters of Republican candidates John McCain and Sarah Palin for President and Vice-President AND of the 2nd Amendment. Although we must respect the political views of others, we want to ensure that our customers know our stance on their rights to enjoy the shooting sports, whether for hunting, target shooting, self-defense or 'just because'.
We are considering our course of action redarding this information and will make an informed decision concerning our future relationship with Cooper Firearms."

Thanks to Arfin, Larry, and Justin for keeping it open. This election has everybody to the point that stopping political discussion is impossible

Um where are you guys reading that on the cooper site? I couldn't find it.

Any gun owner or maker that votes or contributes to the opposition lost my support. Clean enough?

I'm going to play the devil's advocate. Maybe he donated because he believes Obama will be elected president, and is trying to get on his good side?
