i have a savage mark 2, it uses the two piece weaver bases. i bought a set of quad lock rings for it, but with the rings tight i can move them front to back on the bases. what can be the problem?, thanks for any help.
I just today mounted a set of quad mounts on a set of Traditions bases(for a muzzle loader and had the exact same problem. My solution was to get ot the BIG screw driver and tightened the heck out of them. They did tighten up. I didn't have any trouble with another set of mounts on these same bases just the quad mounts.
I have had this problem when the clamping side is upside down, check to see if it is symmetrical or not. If it is not then flip it over and re tighten.
found my problem, the bases on the gun was #24 weaver. the savage takes #16 weaver, now i don't know what kind of rings fit the #24 but when i went and got #16 bases my ring tighten down good. they look just alike but there is a difference. thanks
The # of the base is just the distance between the mounting holes and the contour of the bottom of the base where it mates with the receiver. The dovetail portion of the base is the same dimension for every model of Weaver base.
