I finally got my 7mm-08 dies set up and went to town on some fire formed Privi brass (loding for a Savage bolt action).
This is the first time I've used RL-15. Is it considered a "stick" powder? I've never used anything like this before.
I set up a dedicated turret my LCT with a Perfect Powder measure and a Unniversal Charging Die. Though the powder drop doesn't return to the "fill" position automatically, the case activates the drop well enough.
Took me a while to get used to the vernier set up. Tabulated VMD was light (as expected ).
The PPM was dropping consistantly within about a 39.55 gr to 39.82 gr. window (as measured on an Acculab digital scale), which is pretty darn good in my book.
One frustrating point, the PPM seamed to leak a few grains every time I adjusted the vernier. I couldn't identify where the heck the powder was coming out. This continued, even after tightening up the screw on the rotating drum cap.
Any one out there ever invent a way to auto-return the PPM on a turret press? Obviously the little chain isn't going to help. Perhaps a spring setup?
The Privi brass had no obvious signs of having had the primers crimped, yet WLR primers were going in very "choppy" and rough. I took my chamfer tool and just knocked the edge off the primer pocket and they went in tight, but smooth.
Looking forward to testing this load. Sierra lists it as their accuracy load for their 140 gr. Game King bullet.
