Did a search and got some good information, but not quite what I’m looking for. I’m having trouble finding much in the way of load data for LRNFP bullets (Missouri #1 Ranger, 158 gn, .38/.357).

Can I use the more available data for LSWC information and apply it to the RNFP? The two seem to be very similar.

I have titegroup powder and have begun with 3.5 gn and want to step up the loads. Thanks in advance.

With lead bullets I use the same data for lead SWC and RNFP.
Keep in mind that it doesn't take much Titegroup to raise pressure.

I have shot tens of thousands of 158 grain LSWC, LRN, LRNFP, with 3.5 grs Bullseye in 38 Special cases and never noticed any difference in velocity between the classic LSWC and any of the RN configured lead bullets. Did not notice any point of impact changes either. This load pushes a 158 lead just at 760 fps.

Titegroup and Bullseye give very similar velocities for the same charge levels, while not identical, they are very close. Something they also have in common, pressures climb extremely quickly. Once you have found a good low velocity or standard velocity load with these powders, and I mean non +P loads, do not go looking for +P loads with Bullseye or Titegroup, it is a sure way to inadvertently create a ++P++ load. One that will kaboom any pistol on the market. In fact, Titegroup for some reason, has an abnormal of kaboom reports.

If you are looking for more velocity in a 38 Special, try Unique. If you are looking for magnum loads, don't do it in a 38 Special.

Thank you all for your responses. The reloading tools and powder were left to me by my father and I am just following his load data.

I will look for a more forgiving powder to experiment with. The revolver is a .357.

Thanks again!

Thanks slamfire. .38s through a .357, but I will heed your titegroup warning nonetheless. Great forum..
