Rock Island youth bolt 22?

My son's scouting group has a pair of these.
As a youth rifle, it's noticably heavier than the 702 Plinksters they were using but otherwise comparable in every other respect although it's a bolt rifle. The wooden stocks are much nicer than the synths, and pretty durable. I have to say aesthetically, I think these stocks are nicer than what comes with say a standard 10/22 and most other bottom dollar end .22s (esp my Marlin XT .22M wooden stock), and (again, just aesthetically speaking) I'd put them on par with some of the CZ stocks. Considering the numbers of different boys handling them, there haven't been any issues with the plastic components.

I don't know what they were like when they were brand new, but the bolt actions are very smooth, and consistently good feeding from the mags. Hard to judge accuracy as the range they use is only 25yrds, but the best shooters among them can get quarter sized groupings.

I've thought about picking one up to see what it could do at 100+ yrds, but nobody near me carries them, and by the time I order one, the shipping & FFL fees would chew up the savings from it's otherwise cheap price.

I just bought one. It was $139 plus tax and $10 background fee, credit card upcharge....$168 out the door price. Wood stock, nice magazine, decent sights, tip off grooves for a scope, THREADED BARREL, all with above average fit/finish and shipped in a box you would expect a refrigerator to come out of. I will try to take photos and write up a review when I get a chance. That will have to wait a bit though, this is going to be Daddy’s gun but my girls will be the first ones to test drive the little pop can perforator.
