I just traded for a Rossi Puma .357. I may have been taken on this one. When its empty while cycling the action it is smooth. When cycling the lever when its loaded and chambering a round, sometimes it locks up during forward movement of the bolt and upward movement of the lever. It is not the round being chambered in any way that I can see. I did try cycling it "with authority" and that seemed to help but it still locks up every few rounds after about a 1/4 inch of forward movement of the bolt. Maybe the rounds in the mag protruding when they shouldn't be? Has anybody else had this issue? It is clean and oiled well.
Thanks in advance.

Might be the shape of the bullet. Try other bullet types if you can.

The OAL may be too long which is more likely with hand loaded ammo.

Rossis have had all kinds of problems in the past and it may need action smoothing or more specifically, some feed ramp work. A little polishing and beveling in all the right places. There are a few vids on the net as well as a video that can be purchased from Steve’s Gunz.

My first Rossi .357/.38 would never feed right even after trips to CAS/SASS recommended gunsmiths.

My current Rossi .357/.38 works great with more rounded profile-flat nose bullets. It will load SWC’s, but it’s more “clunky” in operation. It likes .357-length cases best, but will load-shoot .38’s with a bit more effort.

Hopefully it’s just a bullet profile swap and/or a cartridge length issue that gets your Puma running correctly.

Steve’s Gunz DVD is a lifesaver.

Stay safe.
