Forget it . Buy anything but a ar for hunting even if a 223 was legal. There glorified toys. For the same kind of money buy a TC encore with a wide choice of calibers or a revolver like a ruger red hawk or a used dan wesson large frame that is designed for hunting or longer range shooting that can be carried in a cross chest holster. In 40+ years of hunting i have only shoot more than 1 round at a deer or hog 2 times. The TC could shoot out to 300+ yards with the right calibers and a good revolver can do 100 in the heavy calibers.

were i hunt the furthest shot you could take that was reasonable is under 100 yards. we are not hunting flat land we hunt in a hardwood dense forest with lots of hills and valleys, BIG hills!
my stand the shots i usually take are 30-50 yards around that range some areas i can see are up in the 60-80 range and deer are either walking or running however behind me my fathers spot can see a ways away so i can see a 200 yard shot going off there but he has our encore 308 pistol for that.
AR's are great for hunting but im talking about the pistol versions here.
Just want to kno the accuracy capabilities the RRA ar pistol and the KelTec PLR16 has out to 100 yards if you were to shoot with a scope and had a steady hand

I've only shot my PLR 16 out to 50, but it seems to be extremely accurate at that range. I've only used iron sights also.

hmmm very interesting... i would like to hear more about these types of AR 15 pistols and there accuracy capabilities

my cousin uses a full size rifle scope i bet its a 3x9 leaupold scope but yea what i really meant was scopes that are areactually decent for longer ranges not just some red dot sights or low power scopes

I've got a couple Kel Tec PLR pistols. One has a TC scope.

The MV is about 2500 FPS. I'm not a hunter. You have to decide if that's good enough.

The gun is accurate with ammo it likes. It's shot as small as 1 1/8 inch three shot group with Black Hills ammo.

pretty impressive for 95 yards... hmmm .223 2500fps, enough for deer?
i calculated the kenetic energy with a calculator online and with a 52 grain bullet going 2500fps it only puts out 721.50 ft/lbs of energy compaired to a 150gr goin 2500 it has 2081.25 ft/lbs of energy...
why would velocity be less in a shorter barrel than a longer one? is it because of powder burn?

More or less the bullet is still being accelerated the full length of the longer barrel by the expanding gas.
So, the shorter the barrel the sooner the bullet stops being accelerated by the expanding gas.

Like, generally a pistol round is about 200 FPS faster from a 16 inch barrel than from a 4 inch handgun barrel.

The powder and bullet can be and usually is tailored to get the best performance from the barrel length the round will probably be fired in.

Im not a reloader. just dont shoot that much to actually reload just a market amunition shooter.

Had 2, sold 2.....Also had the PLR but someone effered me more than I could refuse. I will prolly get another one. AR pistol gets old quick without a stock. I now have a 10.5" SBR.....World of difference.

well were i am rifles are illegal for game im in a handgun shotgun zone... would like to hear more about these guns and accuracy

Well if its hunting purposes CDNN has 10" barreled PTR 91s Pistols for $1000ish. 308 pistol might give you some oomph.

Deer with the 223 is illegal here. As far as accuracy, I have a 7" and a 15" AR-pistol. I have shot the 15 incher out to 600 yards.
Only shot the 7" out to 200 and it shoots fine.
Both are Lothar Walthar barrels.
Seekins uppers, and Seekins Lower

If .223 (and/or a handgun) is legal for hunting deer in your state and you are a skilled hunter who can stalk close enough and place a shot precisely, that cartridge has harvested quite a few of them. Choose the heaviest - and heaviest constructed - bullet that will stabilize with your rifling twist and short barrel, and you should be OK, at least with species 150 lbs. or less.

i dont stalk deer i hunt from a stand but the type of land im on allows for most deer to be in range from 30-80 yards but past 50 yards is not always likley deer are usually closer

what about a 6.8 pistol?

may not be enough barrel to achieve speeds high enough to open up the bullets

2300 is about minimum iirc

i think were shying away from the ar pistols now... who knows, we are still waiting for our custom TC encore pistol barrel to come, its a 308 barrel full bull cant wait to get it!
