It's listed as different magazines, the 10/22 different than the 77/22 which is the same as the 96/22..

But I assume, they are all interchangable? I remembered asked about the 10/22 and the 77/22, but wondered if someone has all 3 guns and would care to comment.

My old 10/22 mag was not interchaneable with my Dad's 77/22. The length, width, and securing pin sizes were all slightly differant. Just enough that one wouldn't fit in the other. Seems silly to me. More "economy of scale" with them all the same.

My 10/22 magazines will function in my 77/22 and vise versa. The only difference I can see is that the 77/22 magazine has a flat bottom and the 10/22 magazine has a rounded bottom.

There was a thread not to long ago asking a similar question, and there was a very in depth reply. You might try finding it.

the 10/22 (round bottom) mags will work fine in all of them...

the flat bottom mags can be used in a 10/22 but, before doing so you should be aware that the flat base mags have been known to become jammed in 10/22s, such that disasembly was required to clear the problem.

i do not know what actually causes this, just know that it has come up repeatedly over ont eh rimfire central boards.

So it's a round bottom vs flat bottom thing? I can't tell the difference in the pics..

So 10/22 mags -> 77/22,96/22 ok
but
77/22, 96/22 -> 10/22 not ok?

that's about the size of it....

have heard that 9 times out of 10, no trouble, then you have that 10th time that the whole dern thing goes to heck adn you have to strip the gun down jusat to get that stupid magazine out,

personally i havne't had a opurtunity to try oit for myself (don't have a 77- or 96- /22 just an old 10/22)

On the assumption that I could find a 96/22 in .22lr (Ruger doesn't seem to be making them anymore), what does that mean about using the same hicap aftermarket extended mags in a bolt/lever/auto Ruger .22lr?

Fella's;

I've got an early 77/22 and 10/22's. The major difficulty I've had has been the the flat-bottom 77/22 mags do NOT want to eject cleanly from a 10/22. Never had a problem vice-versa.

It's not a disassemble problem, just a pain-in-the-butt. Easily fixed by avoiding the situation altogether. I just bought plenty of extra 10/22 mags & keep the 77/22 mags segregated.
