This CMD had standard sights which I replaced with Truglo TFO, not a great decision.
TFO sights for commander hit way high, resulting in me experimenting with different bullet weights, increasing rounds through pistol.
Eventually I removed the TFO rear and put the original rear sight back on, POI corrected.
About 800 rounds or so later, I know it will feed a variety of bullets.
The only other changes I've made were to increase trigger weight a little, and make disengagement of thumb safety more positive.
Pictured with variety of bullets its fired.

Chrono averages for CMD
Winchester 185 FMJ @ 705 fps (extremely low recoil)
Handload 185 LSWC-HP @ 989 fps
Handload Barnes 160 gr. Tac-XP @ 1,154 fps / 473# KE (my favorite bullet in this pistol, low recoil/ high KE)
Golden Saber 185 +P @ 1,070 fps / 470# KE
Federal HST 230 @ 853 fps / 372# KE
Winchester Ranger T 230 @ 909 fps / 422# KE

I've not done much shooting past 6-7 yards in the last few years, so I'm satisfied with this 14 shot offhand "group" at 20 yards, 6 inch circle.

Good deal. I was close to getting the SR Commander myself. It was a tossup between that and the Remington stainless "enhanced" Commander. I like the slide on the Ruger better (no forward serrations, making a cleaner look), but the matched look of the Remington's "gadgets" (safeties, slide lever, etc.)

The rebate that was going on with Remington pushed me that way, but I'm confident I would have been happy with either. I do own six other Rugers in other calibers.

I was interested in a Ruger CMD 1911, until my lightweight Colt Commander put this group on paper it's first trip out

I can't shoot that accurately freehand (unsupported) at 20 yards with my full size 1911's - Dan Wesson Valor, Les Baer UTC, Ed Brown Special Forces.
Prior to this week, I'd not shot past 6-7 yards in about 6 years, I'd focused my efforts on double taps & split time- just cause.

I bought one of the 4" SR 1911's last year, and it is more accurate in my hands than my Springfield Loaded 5". I am very impressed with Ruger's 1911 efforts!

I couldn't with my full size all steel Kimber, which is partly why I replaced it with a blued Colt XSE

Edited to clarify, that group was shot at 10yrds unsupported.
