Do the Ruger Alaskan's have any type of internal locking mechanism? (specifically the .480 Ruger Alaskan, as I don't trust internal gun locks)

E.g. any type of internal lock like on the newer S&W's and the
Ruger Vaqueros?

I don't think so, although I suspect they may be working on something, and there might be an anouncement at the forthcoming 2007 SHOT Show or next year's NRA Convention.

I am also sure that the Democrats, now that they control the house and senate, will propose and pass national legislation to require internal locks and other (so called) reasonable safety features. Then they'll dare the president to veto it. These proposals will enjoy 99.9 percent support from the national news media. I would not bet that the president would veto such a bill.

Since the future is not clear, I would buy what you want now. In fairness to Ruger, they seem to be designing locks that aren't visable, and easily removable, but they (and others) may not be able to get away with this for long.

New Vaqueros and the Anniversary .357 Blackhawk have them too.
I figure that since these were new models with new grip frames, they took the opportunity to design them from scratch with the locks. They will likely be politically required one of these days and it was a relatively painless way for Ruger to get started.

for me its not whether the lock is visably noticable or not, it is having just one more uneeded thing that can go wrong...
