I was just wondering if the alaskan was worth buying, because i like the idea of having a revolver i can shoot the .454 and the .45 colt in but is the weight going to be a problem considering i will be shooting the .45 more often than the .454 or should i just go with a revolver chambered in just .45 colt and not worry about having a .454. thanks :)

Are you going to carry it? Weight is never a problem if it is going to go from the truck to the shooting bench and back to the truck. ;)

I carry mine, it's not a problem. It carries a lot better than my 5.5 inch Redhawk every did - the size makes it very carryable. It's also a good shooting little gun, shooting freehand (using both hands) mine can ring 12 inch plates at 50 yds 5 out of 6 shots and I've had 2 inch groups with 454 loads at 25 yds (also freehand). I don't shoot rested pistols very well, they're much easier to shoot standing. I shot some 45 Colt out of mine early on and have since switched to all .454 loads. Rob Leahy in Alaska makes a very nice affordable holster for the new Alaskan, you can see & order one here at his website. Or call him at 907-357-6521. Tell him Rich from Sandpoint sent you there...and say hi.
