Looked at a bunch of Rugers (Blackhawks) at the last gun show and noticed something that startled me. The Ruger "Legal Manifesto" on the side of the barrel wasn't visible!!! It was on the bottom side of the barrel (by the ejector rod) like it has been on the Vaqueros. Seems like this was only on some of the guns that had been produced in the last few months (one had the fired shell envelope in the box with a March '07 date). Sure looked a lot better!! Guess it only took 20+ years for Ruger to get the message. You think there's any chance they'll start putting steel grip frames (rather than aluminum) on the regular blued Blackhawks before the year 2030??????

I got a Single-Six a few months ago and it's on the bottom there as well. I like it a lot better.

When taking my Rugers out for use or cleaning, I never read the writing on the guns.

Is there some secret ritual or symbolism that makes this writing a big deal?

Are the guns weaker or less accurate because of it?

Is it possibly a brand specific trademark much like Colt's 4 clicks? If Ruger no longer published it we might think the merchandise is counterfeit.

Inquiring minds want to know.

No it does not have any effect on the function of the gun at all but , to me , it is equivalent to having a car starting instructions and driving warnings stamped on the drivers door of your car. Would not affect the performance or reliabilty of your car but it sure would make it look like hell.

Saw one of the new 357 BHs with the "novel" moved to the underside and the sight of the clean barrel from the side was most welcome. I still have not been back to the gunshop because I know the next time I'll have to shell out the cash!

They moved this quite a while ago. You can thank the get-rich-quick, sue happy, take no responsability society that we live in for it. :cuss:

They did good, but they should move it under the ejector tube... :uhoh:

Absolutely right!

"Not just the BH's have the roll engraving warning on them."

Quite aware of that, but that's what I was referring to. Polymer frames, etc., don't bother me that much on "defense" pistols, and the writing wouldn't either. (Well, not AS much as it does on an otherwise nice-looking single action pistol!)

Seems like when I bought my Blackhawk last year the 5.5" barrel version had the text on the bottom, the 4 5/8" barrel version had it on the side. I have to say, it was a factor for me.

Manifesto? What manifesto?
