Picked up a Ruger LC9 and a couple of factory mags and got to try it out today and will need far more trigger time before I will either carry or sell it. I had 4 different brands of ammo, first mag fed well, second mag 2 FTF, one cartridge didn't have a mark on the primer. I ran a few mags of everything I had, mixed them up and got 3 FTF on different brands in the same mag. It ran on Federal JHP but I the FTF without a scratch on the primers bothers me. I had one FTE also. Stripped it and could see marks on the left side of the feed ramp. Will take a very close look tonight but I am less than happy and won't carry it until I trust it. Does this have a break-in? Couldn't find any info if it does. Back to my Glock 23 for everyday or a J frame, even a 45 these I trust.

Get rid of it. You'll never trust it again. Or send it back to ruger. That is the point of buying a NEW gun anyways, the guarantee that the factory will fix it if it breaks.

Good luck!

That's a total bummer. I've got 700+ rounds through mine without a single issue.

Meanwhile, a brand new S&W Sigma in 9mm and had similar issues to what you had. Luck of the draw I suppose.

Ruger centerfire pistols are mid-level performers, they have earned a solid, well deserved reputation for delivering flawed product to market! Someone above chimed in with the obligatory Ruger fanboy refrain that they have "super-massively great customer service." Sorry, good customer service does not revolve around cheerfully repairing tens of thousands of defective pistols that should never have been released to market in the first place.

Good customer service is rooted in delivering working product to market the first time, everytime!

Sounds like obligatory Ruger blind hate to me...

Companies don't make fanboys and become the number 1 selling brand of handguns by consistently "delivering flawed product to market"

If Ruger has more handguns with functioning problems than other manufactures, it is probably because they sell more than other manufacuters. You can't swing a dead cat in this forum without finding someone hating on every brand on the market, and talking about their horrible experience with the products. SIG, Kimber, Smith & Wesson, even Glock....

Back it goes to Ruger. I have several Rugers, none bought in the last 20yrs. If it had been reliable I would have carried it. The trigger leaves a lot to be desired but for SD it would work. Back to my Mod. 60, always reliable and no holes, locks, safeties in this older Smith.

No. Mine has almost 1,600 trouble free rounds of mixed ammo right from the box. I intend buying a second one at the next gun show.

Give Ruger a call or e-mail them.

In my last dealings with Ruger customer service they sucked, but that was some years back. Maybe they are better now.

Mine performed flawlessly and was very easy to conceal in a holster or pocket. The only thing I couldn't live with was all the safeties. Mine's for sale on consignment in a local gun store.

I didn't like the safeties, so I took em all off. Removed the mag disconnect and thumb safety. Easy to do and I couldn't be happier.

I guess if you have a solid reliable ruger you are happy with and you tell others you are a fanboy. Guess I'm one then...ruger will take care of your issue and you will be left with a great, affordable handgun that will be with you for years.

Any manufacturer that turns out as many units as they do and want to keep the price of their product down will produce lemons from time to time.

Ruger has earned its reputation for great customer services by doing what other gun companies haven't an won't. Admit they get it wrong sometimes, and be proactive. Also I can't count on one hand how many people I know that have sent back used Rugers and only had to pay for the shipping. One guy shot the barrel out and Ruger replaced the barrel and gave the gun an overhaul and he only paid for the shipping. The main thing is to not put foreign parts in the gun or shorten the barrels, otherwise Ruger will typically take care of you. And if you send your gun in with a Wolf Spring set, expect the spring set to disappear, happened to a buddy of mine.

When I see a used Ruger I'm more interested in purchasing it than a Colt or S&W. Yeah Colt and S&W might do the repair work but I'll get charged big time for it probably.

I'm personally interesed in the Ruger LCP .380 but I might go for the 9mm. I'll see what the difference is at the next gunshow. I am disappointed though that I can't run +P 9mm in the LCP for a steady diet. Pow'R Ball would make a good small but powerful bullet for the gun.

OK mine out for the first time last week and went through 137 various practice and defense ronds with three different mags. No problems. Carrying it now.

Actually, S&W has phenomenal CS from what I understand. Never needed it with any of mine, though. Have 13 currently.

When you purchase a new firearm and it doesn't work it does bother me a lot and have a hard time trusting.
I had problems with my P32 when I purchased new but after a quick fix its been flawless and have come to trust it.

If you really like it send it back and give the manufacturer a second chance to make it right. If it fails again(it shouldn't) I would then get rid of it.
I had a Kahr P380 that I truly loved when it worked, 3 trips to kahr and I had to sell it, couldn't trust it anymore.
Best of luck

Ignore the negative, bashing comments. Ignorant BS. Nothing can fully test a firearm like getting it it folks hands. Ruger is second to absolutely none with their firearms and customer service. I'm a big S&W fan. But Ruger is winning me over with the great products they are putting out. By the way, my SR9 has been flawless for hundreds of rounds, my LC9, flawless for about 300. Hopefully my SR1911 will get here soon! The S&W's I have are getting a bit ticked, but I still let them know that the love is still there.
