Glad to see the review on the Ruger LCR. I am considering it for my personal carry and my wife will likely do the same. This is a very nice revolver and a better choice for self-defense/CC than a subcompact, single-stack 9mm (just my opinion, of course...others may feel differently). Bear in mind that I do love the 9mm round (and 40SW and 38 spl and others...), but for CC, a lightweight, DAO 38 spl revolver is hard to beat.
Although I do shoot 158 gr SWC +P rounds (usually not in a small revolver, but more often in my S&W Model 10), the ideal round for the Ruger LCR is the Federal 110 gr. Hydra-Shok. The reasons why are lower recoil and less flash than heavier 38 spl. +P rounds. If you get jumped and need to reach for your pistol or revolver, you're going to be very nervous with lots of adrenaline flooding your body. Sharp recoil coupled with nervous, sweaty hands could mean a dropped weapon on your second shot (even worse if it's dark). The Ruger LCR has (I believe) an 8-lb pull weight, which is very nice for a DAO pistol, and no hammer to snag and no slide to rack. This makes for an ideal CCW.
Everyone has different opinions on the ideal CCW and best round, but I do believe that the 110 gr Hydra-Shok + Ruger LCR make a great combination.
