Now that I own two of the GSR's mags, I really can't believe they cost 70 bucks. But I really don't care. I love this rifle and I am very happy with it. I will slowly build up a few more mags. Walked into this one and could not believe my luck, once it was in my hands I had to get it. Can't explain why I love it exactly, just that I do. It shoots a lot softer than I thought it would and I have heard a few people say that muzzle blast would be bad but nothing could be further from the truth.

Very accurate and reliable, at least for me. My only semi complaint is the safety. This is probably just a matter of familiarity, I am sure it will grow on me. Honestly this is my new favorite rifle. Makes me want to act like a kid and go running around the woods ambushing those evil soda cans. Oh you know you did it when you were a kid too.

Here is a pic of her with my other carbines.

Glad to hear that you are happy with your rifle. I am still loving mine and it is a blast to shoot. +1 on the easy shooting, it does not kick that much at all.

Watch Midway for discounts and deals, I was able to get some decent prices on AI mags from GSR this way. Much lower than $70.

And now a prayer to the magazine gods...Please make polymer mags for this rifle....please...

Why didn't Ruger just design the GSR to take an existing 7.62 magazine?

As I was, looks like they did (http://cheaperthandirt.com/blog/?p=7729). There wasn't a cheaper existing magazine they could have gone with though?
Ruger and others, myself included, tried to get M1A pattern magazines to work. They simply did not work that well. There was also concern about the quality from different manufacturers effecting feeding. They went with the Accuracy International design. It is expensive, but proven and smooth.

You get a choice, Reliable or Cheap...I don't think Ruger wanted to have to deal with a magazine recall issue

Well the mags work very well. Not the easiest to load but not the hardest either. I figure that eventually they will come out with a cheaper alternative. I sent an email to Ruger about the cost and they said that cheaper polymer ones were in the works.

One another note. This is the first bolt gun that I have owned that held more than three or four rounds. 10 rounds may not sound like much but with a bolt it seems to last forever. Totally different shooting compared to a semi. With a semi I like to shoot a little fast, speed over pin point accuracy. But now that I have the Scout I am loving the slower pace to shooting. This gun is a whole lot of fun and I am just very happy to own it.
