Just bought a new Mark IV Hunter, and can't see the rear sight worth a darn. I see Williams and HiViz both have fiber optic rear sights, but are there any others out there? Any opinion on those 2?

I'm sure I'd be better off to put a dot on it, but the whole idea of the Ruger was to practice sight picture more. All of my other pistols have night sights on them, and I just can't pick up that solid black rear sight to make sure the front sight is level and centered.

Any thoughts appreciated.

I went with the HiViz for my Mk IV Hunter. Fit was a bit tight but nothing some slight filling couldn't fix. That’s the same brand that makes the front sight for the Mk IV Hunter. The rear sight is all steel, well made and greatly improved the sight picture over the original V notch. Additionally, both windage and elevation on the HiViz are slotted screw heads. Unlike the original which requires a VERY small allen key for elevation but a flat screwdriver for windage.
I bought mine from Optics Planet at a discount.

You’re not supposed to be “picking up” the rear sight. Dots on rear sights are counterproductive. Your focus should either be on the front sight or the target - never the rear sight.

It's easier to center the post against clearly designated boundaries imo. I know some like blacked out rear sights but I prefer 3 dot or equivalent, like an outlined rear sight.

I put the Williams firesight on a GP 100 liked it so much I put it on a MK 11 BB and absolutely love them. Everyone that shoots them have commented on the sights.

I ended up with the Hi Viz MKAD211. At 60+ years of age I need all the differentiation I can get.

Having those 2 extra dots gives me a much easier time lining the sights up. It installed easily enough, with a punch and hammer, since the round receiver didn't hold too well in my sight pusher. Adjusted easily to where I needed it to be and now we're good. One of these days I'll probably need to go to a red dot, but for now I'm happy.
