I have an early model Ruger Mini-14 purchased in the 1980's.
It has never grouped well, even with a scope on a B-Square mount.
Any tips on what I might do to improve grouping?
If the corrections approach the cost of a new gun I would rather trade it for a newer model.
Someone told me that the older model barrels were too thin and that effects accuracy.
Trigger pull is heavy.

Replace the trigger. Put a free-floated bull barrel on it. Glass bed the action.

A couple of guys I hunt with have heavily modified minis like this for varmint hunting. They'll do nickel sized groups at 100 yards.

Me? I use an AR with a bull barrel that cost half as much as the modified mini.

I'd sell it and get a newer model. The newer series #580 mini-14 rifles are more accurate than their predecessors. The Mini production line was re-tooled 2 years ago. The rifles produced today are far superior to the older models. Tollerances are tighter, barrel is heavier.

IMHO you will spend just as much or more accurizing it than you would buying it NIB.

Bodie, i would suggest a trigger job from greatwest gunsmithing( 55.00 last i knew) & an accu-strut. under 200.00 & a whole different rifle. check out perfectunion.com for lots of tips on making it accurate for very little money. just torqueing the gas block can make a world of difference. have fun tinkering with it . it's a great little rifle.
